School of Social Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series

Join us for another School of Social Sciences Brown Bag lecture on Monday, April 26th at 12 pm with James Dean, Professor of Sociology, who will be discussing his recent research, Influencers: Microcelebrity, Bodily Capital, and LGBTQ Subculture on Instagram.

In this talk, Professor Dean outlines key terms in the study of social media influencers, such as microcelebrity, algorithm, and affordances. He then discusses how influencers are establishing online identities in the niche markets of beauty and fitness. In particular, he notes that there is little research that examines how sexual-gender identity shapes influencers' online personae as beauty and fitness digital content creators, whcih is the central focus of his new research project.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-2021 Brown Bag Series will take place via Zoom. Please join us: https://SonomaState.zoom.us/j/86708432340

The School of Social Sciences Brown Bag Series is always free, open to faculty, staff, students, and the public, and provides a congenial interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of recent research by School of Social Sciences faculty.
