School of Social Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series ~ Steve Estes, History

Join us for another School of Social Sciences Brown Bag lecture on Monday, September 20th at 12 pm with Steve Estes, Professor of History who will be discussing his recent research, San Francisco: The Muse of the Beat Generation.

In popular culture, San Francisco is synonymous with the 1960s. The 1950s are relegated to a drab, black-and-white prologue for the exciting, dayglow decade that followed. Never mind that many of the hippies who flocked to San Francisco during the Summer of Love acknowledged the inspiration of the Beats. Even they understood that the cultural revolution of the sixties could never have occurred without the artistic renaissance of the fifties. At this Brown Bag, Steve Estes will talk about the outline of a new book project (in its earliest stages) on how San Francisco shaped the Beat movement and how the Beats helped to reinvent the city.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fall 2021 Brown Bag Series will take place via Zoom. Please join us: https://SonomaState.zoom.us/j/88396474182

The School of Social Sciences Brown Bag Series is always free, open to faculty, staff, students, and the public, and provides a congenial interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of recent research by School of Social Sciences faculty.
