Dr. Don Romesburg will present his research, Contested Curriculum: The History of K-12 LGBTQ-Inclusive History Education.
Cultures wars against inclusive history are at least a century old, and some have battled against LGBTQ-inclusive history education ever since its tentative beginnings in the 1970s. Nevertheless, through fits and starts, educators and advocates have built queer-inclusive history curricula, educational materials, and policies. Despite the latest "Don't Say Gay" backlash, momentum continues to accelerate. I'll share some of my insights from the book I'm writing on this topic.
Dr. Don Romesburg is a Professor in the Women's and Gender Studies department. His research focuses on LGBTQ+ U.S. history and history education.
