School of Social Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series

Join us for another School of Social Sciences Brown Bag lecture on Monday, February 15th at 12 pm with Emily Ray, Assistant Professor of Political Science, who will be discussing her recent research, Space is the Place: A Critical Look at the Legal Frameworks for Claiming Celestial Bodies.

In her talk, Dr. Ray will discuss how the United States government, in close partnership with Silicon Valley engineering and technology companies, are working towards the technologies and legal frameworks to open outer space bodies to commodification, and to draw them into the vast network of exploitable resources back on Earth and as future sites of permanent human presence. Her research contextualizes public policies and efforts to finance strong US presence in a future outer space economy in the critical theory tradition.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-2021 Brown Bag Series will take place via Zoom. Please join us:

The School of Social Sciences Brown Bag Series is always free, open to faculty, staff, students, and the public, and provides a congenial interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of recent research by School of Social Sciences faculty.
