Dr. Soo-Yeon Yoon, Assistant Professor of Sociology, published an article, titled "Labour market uncertainty and the economic foundations of marriage in South Korea" in the journal Asian Population Studies. In her co-authored publication, she and her colleagues examine how various indicators of socioeconomic status are associated with the transition to first marriage for men and women. Economic prospects have been a strong predictor for men's marriage entry, and their findings suggest that high SES also facilitates women's transition to marriage. They conclude that changes in gender relations and rising uncertainties in the labor market reshape the nature of the economic foundations of marriage.
