Dr Karin Jaffe's asynchronous online course, Anthropology 313 Primate Behavioral Ecology, underwent a CSU systemwide formal course review using a team approach of three CSU-certified QLT peer reviewers. The course exceeded the requirements of the 52-item CSU Quality Learning & Teaching (QLT) instrument, a rigorous standard of course quality. The peer reviewers found Anthropology 313 to be "...an expertly designed asynchronous learning environment. The content is varied and engaging and clearly maps to the achievement of course objectives." This is the second course in the School of Social Sciences to earn QLT course certification. Dr. Jaffe's Anthropology 318 earned QLT certification in December 2020.

Anthropology 313 familiarizes students with our closest living relatives, the primates. Topics covered include taxonomy, diets & dietary adaptions, ranging behavior, cooperation & competition, community ecology, and conservation. The asynchronous online version of Anthropology 313 makes extensive use of videos to illustrate the behavior of primates in their natural habitats.

Dr. Jaffe is a Professor of Anthropology and Associate Dean for the School of Social Sciences. In addition to primate behavioral ecology, she also teaches courses on the evolution of human behavior and methods for observing primate behavior. Dr. Jaffe is a previous Excellence in Teaching Award winner.
