Zeke Baker, Assistant Professor of Sociology, recently presented his climate change research at two meetings: the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association (in Los Angeles) and a two-day intensive workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) hosted at the University of Southern Indiana. The NSF group was an international, interdisciplinary team focused on agenda-setting among social science researchers working on climate change issues. “The great part of that meeting,” Zeke Baker explains, “was that we focused on developing new, undergraduate teaching materials in conversation with the frontiers of our research. We’re looking at organizing a student-centered book or related publications, which is exciting for me—and for institutions like SSU.” Work presented at the American Sociological Association contributed to a panel focused on how to better align scientific expertise and socially responsible policy-making. The title of Baker’s paper is “From prediction to anticipatory culture: Sociology of science at work in weather and climate services.”
