Purpose
The Dean's Summer Research Grants provide financial support for faculty conducting research over the summer.
Award
In Summer of 2022 each grant was $1000.
Deadline
TBA. Usually mid-Spring semester.
Eligibility
All full-time and part-time Social Science faculty are eligible to apply.
Deliverables
- Present the results of your summer research at a Brown Bag Lunch during the upcoming academic year.
- Submit a 250-500 word summary of what you accomplished with your summer stipend by the end of September.
Criteria
Applicants must submit a one-page summary of their proposed summer research project(s) that includes:
- the significance of the research,
- anticipated outcomes of the project(s) (i.e., publications, presentations, curricular improvement, etc.),
- a research timeline/plan, and
- a brief budget statement indicating how a Summer Research Grant will help you achieve their research goals
Evaluation
Proposals will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Proposal Quality: 3 – Proposal is clear and detailed and includes all of the following: significance of the research, timeline of research/scholarship, anticipated outcomes (i.e., publications, presentations, etc.); 2 – Proposal includes some of the following: significance, timeline, anticipated outcomes; 3 – Proposal lacks clarity and detail and is missing significant information with regard to: significance, timeline, anticipated outcomes
- Number of Summer Research Grant Awards in the previous 3 years: 3 – None; 2 – one award; 1 – two awards; 0 – three awards
- Budget Statement: 2 – Explicit statement of how funds will be used; 1 – Vague statement of how funds will be used; 0 – No statement of how funds will be used
