The Oxford Consortium for Human Rights (OCHR) conducts teaching and research workshops on human rights, global conflict, humanitarian aid, peace building, and related subjects for students and faculty in collaboration with the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict (ELAC). The goal of these workshops is to understand and develop constructive solutions to today's problems, drawing from scholars and students from a wide variety of disciplines. In addition to their the signature workshop focused on human rights and humanitarian law, held in Oxford, England each March, the Consortium also hosts a variety of other seminars in different locations and different foci--all chosen for their relevance to current events and the human rights fields.

Sonoma State University is proud to be an OCHR partner institution, hosting the Human Rights, Activism, and Community Action Workshop each January. This workshop features both eminent scholars and local activists to engage students in conversations and skill-building around the theory and practice of community action. Participants learn from scholars and activists, participate in discussions and work groups, and engage with a local organization to get an in-depth view of local issues, connecting these ideas with broader principles and inspiring students to engage with their own communities.
