Zeke Baker, Assistant Professor of Sociology, published an op-ed in the Washington Post. The article shows how Southwest Florida's history of developing wetlands for real estate contributed to the disastrous consequences of Hurricane Ian, which recently devastated areas of the American Southeast. In the article, Baker argues that preserving wetland coastal environments is critical in mitigating the impacts of climate change and "coastal capitalism" in Florida and elsewhere.
