SSU Model UN Delegation 2023 - Distinguished Delegation Press Release Sonoma State University Model UN Delegation Wins Distinguished Delegation at Prestigious National Model United Nations Conference in NYC! After three years’ interruption due to the pandemic, Sonoma State’s Model UN Delegation returned to the National Model UN Conference in New York City in April and won the award for ‘Distinguished Delegation’. SSU’s Delegate Leela Haria also won ‘Outstanding Position Paper in UNEA Committee’. Sonoma State’s Model UN program has a long history of sending student delegations to participate in the NMUN conference, winning ‘Outstanding Delegation’ in 2019. This year our student delegates represented UN member state The Kingdom of Denmark and sat on 7 UN Committees: ECOSOC, UNEA, IAEA, CPD, CSW, IAEA, and UNHCR. To faithfully represent their member state, SSU’s MUN Delegation met with both the Consul General of Denmark in Silicon Valley, and the Political Affairs Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in NYC. Months of dedicated preparation culminated in SSU’s MUN Delegation traveling to the National Model UN Conference in NYC to work with approximately 1000 student delegates from universities around the world to address the critical global challenges their committees were tasked with. After four days of intense collaboration and negotiation in their respective committees, SSU’s Denmark Delegation was honored to be recognized as 'Distinguished Delegation’ in the United Nations General Assembly Hall. SSU’s Model UN program is officially BACK!!!
